Under The Sign Of The Black Mark
|
One of the unsung heroes of the black metal, death metal, viking metal music scene. Way back in 1983, this band started making unhuman metal, that shaped the entire black metal scene to this day. I was so stoked when i heard this stuff on the lost and the damn video game on the death metal station that I always listened to in the game. This music is so timeless for me and captures this dark evil energy that I love. Not many death metal bands do this for me.
I love this lp because of Call from the grave, my fav song by Bathory. This lp has this trash punk metal sound to it, almost like some old punk, but the troll like vocals make it sound otherworldly. I absolutely love the vocals. Screeching growl that everyone copied to death. I prefer the original guy who did it. He is dead now
RIP Quorthon, you still inspire me.
My favorite tracks are Call From The Grave, Enter The Eternal Fire, Massacre, 13 Candles. Think filthy troll punk, at the mouth of hell singing about their countess Bathory. This music influenced so many bands after. This is before Napalm Death, and the grind core scene. Some of the songs on this get really fast like grind. Over all I prefer this stuff because its so evil.
If you are into black metal, and stuff like this, this is a must have. I give this an 8 out of 10. Click here to buy Under the sign of the black mark on mp3.

Hardly unsung, but I can truly agree with you on this. Bathory represents what artistry can be if you are simply an artist…an avatar for feelings and atmospheres. Not a pro. Not even a rookie in the studio.
Black Metal is responsible for taking people to some of the most beautiful and terrifying places imaginable. If you can shed some of the connotations and background stories, it can be quite a journey.
Listen to Burzum or Darkthrone’s “in the Shadow of the Horns” if you want to hear more of that rough and cold punk inspired sound you were talking about.
one of my favorite albums by Bathory. Pardon my other comment left on VAC didn’t know about this webpage too :-X your a busy dude with all this internet junk lol how you can make such amazing music and still review all these things blows my mind, I get distracted by a bug and lose a whole day lol.
