Exploding Head

Joe over at metropolis records turned me on to these guys. Instantly took to them. They have this old school sound with this modern edge. They are a super powerful noise goth pop rock act. Soft vocals kind of like blur, music like the cure, bauhaus, the bravery, sonic youth and joy division.
They have this indie rock punk sound as well that bleeds in. They are really loud. They might lack in band image, but I really love the music. Fast, upbeat and melodic and noisy. The drums are huge in that rock sense, the snares really hit hard.
My favorite song is “Keep Slipping Away”, sounds like old cure. In your heart is really cool as well, kind of sounds like a throw back to old u2 and rem. Ego Death is pretty good as well, reminds me of old godflesh. I really like Everything always goes wrong as well, kind of sounds like old punk and social distortion.
The lyrics are interesting. Kind of dark. The production is decent, it has this super verbed out distorted super loud sound to it that is pretty powerful. This stuff rocks out pretty hard and sometimes even sounds industrial and machine like. It’s a really cool melting pot of a lot of styles that I really like.
I love the driving bass lines that are all flanged out, so retro. If you like this kind of noisy experimental old school rock, this is a must own. I give this lp a 8 out of 10. Click Here to buy A Place to bury Strangers: Exploding Head.
