This lp starts out kind of strange and disjointed. The Opening track Arrow stutters and flutters in a cool way. This lp has a lot of pop appeal and is much different from their previous offering “The Con”. This act continues to evolve and change. This song is more focused in style and sound, which is good and bad depending on what you like.

Hell – Tegan and Sara

But what I really liked over all is this 80s vibe the lp seems to have. I can hear the missing persons, devo influences. The lp even has a few songs that have a real punk edge. Again, their vocal harmonies are really strong and have a lot of character. They sing in a really distinct way and tone that automatically tells you, this is Tegan and Sara.

Strangely, the song “On Directing” is kind of silly. But it hypnotizes me, the synth bleep leads. It kind of reminds me of the new young pony club(another new band I really like) it has a strong bass line that drives it. I hear a lot less acoustic guitar on this lp over all and more electric guitars. The Video below is a live version of one of my favorite tracks on the lp “The Cure” and yes it does kind of sound like the band The Cure. I love going to their shows, they do talk a lot and tell jokes and act silly, its cute and silly and entertaining. I find them adorable.

The song Northshore has this punk feel to it. Kind of choppy guitar chord riffs and a strange verse line. Nightwatch really reminds me of crossing Missing Persons with the new young pony club. I really like the strange chorus in this song. Alligator is one of the songs that is a bit to poppy for me. What I really like about this LP over all though is the weird timing on some of the songs. Kind of reminds me of prog rock like rush, sometimes their bass tones remind me of old old rush, but the songs sound pop even though they have these strange rhythms.

My favorite songs are, Arrow, Don’t Rush, Hell, and The Cure. This lp does not seem to have the hit power that the con had, or so jealous had. This is a more even keel effort, a consistent effort. I do like it, but not my fav this year or anything. I am a Tegan and Sara fan though, after seeing them live, they won me over for life. I give this lp a 7 out of 10.
