This band amazes me. I have always been a sucker for really well done deep low vocals, and not many can pull it off in a way that I really enjoy. This band dabbles in the 80s dark folk roots like death in june and current 93, but adds a more pop edge to it.

Their sound production is excellent. I strived to make things sound this good, and fall a little short, kind of depressing to me. I really love how full their mixes sound. His voice is amazing. I love the lyrics a lot as well.

I seriously think he kind of tells stories with his words like Ronan Harris from VNV nation, but he does it way better with a much better tone in his voice as well. I love acoustic guitars that sound dark and foreboding.

I thought no one was making great music that had weight, darkness and heart anymore. All the old idols are not as good as they used to be. Finally a new breed is bringing the dark goth edge back to music in a very polished way.

My favorite song on this LP is To Die Among Strangers. I love the the “ohhhhhhhh ” back ground vocals, it sounds haunted. I love the drums. It reminds me of the old music I loved so much growing up, like a cross between the older mission UK, The Sisters of Mercy mixed with Current 93 and Death in June. I am older, and I find that my older friends like this, while some of the new kids really have new clue when it comes to dark folk or old goth. Other notable tracks are Swords to Rust Hearts to rust, The Accidents of Gesture, Who fell in love with the sea, and The Secret Sons of Europe. I highly recommend this to fans of old sisters of mercy, death in june, c93, old mission uk, and Leonard Cohen. I give this lp a 7 out of 10. Click Here to Buy Rome: Flowers from Exile. I wish they had an american label, it is so hard to get ahold of their stuff. And their old stuff is out of print. Pisses me off!! This stuff is new for fucks sake, Please print up more!!!!

I think these guys played at the Vendetta Fest this year.. I missed their set though.. All i know is that Joe(Combichrist, Imperative Reaction) wasn’t digging them.. Und that they played too long und cut Hocico off early. heh.. but i dug their online songs. so i am sure their live performances.

  2. Circuit 23 Said,

the song Black Angel by The Cult (and some of their other stuff too) reminds me of this band.
